Counterfeit.. Defi & Coilovers!?

We have recently become aware of counterfeit items going around. In past years we have known of counterfeit lowering springs being distributed, but have not seen much lately. We received a few emails to our general tech and customer service email address from customers questioning if they should purchase a specific product.

The following two pictures were from a customer who searched “Defi” on Ebay and found these gauges as the cheapest listings (under $25 each).

This is not a product of Defi. The seller did not list all the features and did not provide any other detailed pictures.

The next two pictures were from a customer checking out a RX7 forum and were confused if these were real.

The seller was claiming that these were our TEIN Super Drift Coilovers made for the FC RX7 going for $800.00 brand new.

We currently just received some stock of this Advance ZD bundle. The recently released Defi Advance ZD, p/n DF09702,  has now been offered as a Club Sports Package, which includes the following parts

DEFI Advance ZD Coming Soon

In a few weeks we will have the new DEFI Advance ZD on our shelves. This is a digital multi-meter display which is replacing the DEFI Link Display. Some of the features included are:
Speedometer (0-240MPH)
RPM with Sequential indicator system (0-11,000RPM)
Odometer and Trip meter
0-60MPH timer
0-100MPH timer
Clock

The ZD can display/ monitor: water temp., oil temp., oil press., fuel press., and exhaust gas temp.

*Advance ZD must be used with the Advance Control unit and all sensors are sold separately.


Advance ZD is basically 3.8 inches wide, 1.8 inches tall and 1.1″ inches thick (total 1.7 inches thick including mounting hardware).

The display is an OLED type which creates a vibrant and easy to read display. Up to 6 items can be displayed at once.

This car has been in a few previous posts. It is owned by one of the staff here at TEIN USA. Originally bought brand new to be a fun daily driver / occasional track toy but soon took on a life of its own. Since we are the exclusive distributor for a variety of top brands (Carbing, Fujitsubo, Defi, SuperPro, and Takata) it was easy to build a quality car, plus employee discounts never hurt.

The exterior is comprised of Voltex bodykit and wing. Volk TE-37 18×9.5+12 with 8mm of spacers on front and rear wrapped with 275/35/18 tires.

Sitting on Super Racing coilovers with 14kg front springs and 12kg rear springs. The dampers have also been revalved with a few “special” parts to test out. Could be lower for appearance sake but this ride height works well for performance reasons.

Power is provided by Tomei ARMS turbo, Cosworth head and top end internals, plus a few HKS parts. You can find out HP/TQ and power curve in the current issue of Import Tuner magazine (July 2010) which go into detail about the Tomei Arms M7960 turbo, Cosworth 272 cams, and Okada Projects Quad Pac ignition coils. Drivetrain is comprised of Carbonetic carbon fiber clutch and carbon differentials.

Interior is filled with DEFI meters, Bride GIAS seats, Greddy boost controller, Alpine headunit, and of course dual EDFCs.

TEIN’s 2005 Ford Mustang GT

TEIN’s global involvement in producing aftermarket suspension goes well beyond the Japanese Domestic brands, such as Toyota, Nissan, Honda, etc.  In 2003, we started developing suspensions for European and U.S. Domestic brands. Soon after, we started campaigning our line of suspensions for these markets and had demo cars, like the E46 BMW M3(on TEIN SS-P) and MkV GTI widebody(on TEIN Euro Damper). But, my favorite one to date would be the 2005 S197 Ford Mustang showcasing our TEIN Type Flex dampers.

Other than our Type Flex dampers as suspension modifications, some of my favorite modifications are ProCharger cetrifugal supercharger, custom 3″ exhaust by Fujitsubo, massive Wilwood 6 piston front and 2 piston rear big brake kit, a host of Defi Red Racer gauges, and the 19″x8.5″ front and 19″x9.5″ rear  Volk GTF’s. The list of modifications goes well beyond those and definitely contribute to a very unique car build for the TEIN group.

TEIN USA is the exclusive North America Distributor for the DEFI brand of products. We just received our first shipment of the new DEFI Advance BF line of gauges. These units replace the current Link BF line which has already stopped production.



The Advance BF meters still feature the blacked out lens and come in 60mm Metric readout. Available colors now include blue alongside the popular amber and white. Advance BF feature more LEDs for a brighter and more vibrant display which make them easier to see in daylight. The lens is now flat which improves the visibility at any angle, and DEFI has increased the number of increment markings (ticks). Other features include warning set, peak hold, record, playback, dimmer, and audio-able warning.

The new advance series replaces the popular Link BF series. The new Advance series features a wired remote for the control unit, more durable plugs and a host of features.

DEFI’s Advance series is the evolution of the Link Series. They will be releasing new compatible products in the near future which will now be available for use with the Advance  series control unit. If your looking to purchase a set of accurate and reliable gauges to protect the investments made into your power-train, you should definitely consider the DEFI Advance series.

If a blacked out face is not what your looking for. The Advance CR series is also available in 52mm and 60mm Metric readouts which are available in traditional white or black face.

DEFI Advance CR Install with Modified magazine

We just finished up the installation of the new DEFI Advance CR into Modified magazine’s project EVO X. Chief editor, Peter Tarach, picked the 60mm black face meters which match well with the EVO X’s OEM cluster. He also decided to add the visors to the 3 gauges sitting atop the dash to aid in blocking glare. Billet ALFiT water and oil sensor adapters were used to complete the install. Pickup Modified magazine to see the progress on this EVO X build.

The new Advance CR meters feature: a wired remote control, ability to switch illumination colors, electric sensors, stepping motors, daisy chain technology, and much more. Available in 52mm and 60mm in black or white face. You can learn more about the new DEFI Advance CR meters HERE.
