J T Motoring’s FR-S Build

One of our good friends, Brian Hung from J T Motoring out in Massachusetts, has made a name for himself bringing JDM tuning to New England. His latest build for 2013 is this beautifully crafted Scion FR-S.

IMG_3349 (Custom)

When Brian, contacted us, you can already guess that he needed a suspension solution. We were fortunate enough to be one of the first coilover manufacturer’s to have something readily available for the new FR-S, and for Brian, it was a no-brainer to step up into the Type Flex coilovers since this build was more than show. He had performance in mind for this project.  Matched to our coilover package is another new offering- EDFC Active. This was, in fact, one of the first cars in New England to sport this setup. But, this car is full of plenty “firsts” for its region.

By the looks of it, you can see that no expenses were spared. No corners cut. Brian wanted to push the emphasis on JDM and he chose the highest quality for parts that he could find, which happen to be the very same brands he sells at J T Motoring.

The spec sheet has more listed than all the ingredients needed for a Thanksgiving dinner. And looks to be more delicious, too.

EDFC ACTIVE…. PRO??????

Just when you thought that something cool couldnt get any better, an even better version comes out. TEIN Japan has taken the already insane EDFC Active and added even more features bringing it to the mind blowing level.

EDFC Active Pro image

The new EDFC Active Pro controller would offer the same standard functions as the standard EDFC Active, but would add the following features in..

  • Four Wheel Independent Adjustment- Allow for a never before individual corner adjustment for even finer tuner reference.
  • Built-In Longitudinal and Lateral G-Sensor – Allows for both longitudinal and lateral movement adjustments where it was only longitudinal on the standard EDFC Active.
  • An addition of Two External Signal Input Ports for Adjustment- Allows for the another signal to be used in conjuction with the controller such as a Brake Signal or a Universal Signal.

Although it may not seem like much, this would take this kit to a whole new level. The EDFC Active Pro is expected to be released early January in TEIN Japan, and probably around mid March in TEIN USA. Pricing has not yet been finalized but is expected to only be a few hundred more which I feel is worth it. Check back with us on our websites “New Applications” section for up to date info on the release of this new kit.

TEIN MONO SPORT DAMPERS

Recently TEIN has been releasing there new updated version of our already popular coilover kits.

The BASIC coilover kit has been updated and released as the STREET BASIS.

The Super Streets have been superseded by the STREET ADVANCE.

And our Flex damper has been superseded by the STREET FLEX.

All of these have been updated with new internal components and some minor changes to the outer portion as well. We’ve also been able to reduce MSRP a significant amount to make it much more affordable for our customers! You can find all the new product information through this link http://www.tein.com/products/index.html

Well now it’s time for the Mono Flex to have a change as well.  They have been finding new ways to have one of the best suspensions in the market for a very reasonable price.  Starting in 2014 TEIN will be releasing two variations of the MONO Sport.

clearmodel

The MONO SPORT and the MONO SPORT TOURING Coilovers. Both lines will carry our newly designed Upright Strong Tube for strut type suspensions. With this newly design, it reduces friction using a revised internal lubrication method. With this design we are able to have the click assembly for the dampening force adjustment on the top, making the adjustments or installation of the optional EDFC/EDFC Active much easier.

The system still offers the 16 levels of compression and rebound together, but now it is equipped with exclusively-designed “ADVANCE M.S.V.” With the use of “ADVANCE M.S.V.”, damping force adjustable range is made about three times wider, yet superior damping force characteristics are maintained in all parts to improve steering response, road ability and traction performance.

These are just some of the few revisions done to the MONO Sport line for further information on the system please follow this link. http://www.tein.co.jp/e/products/mono_sport.html

Tech: EDFC Active Guide Part 1

IMG_6748

New to 2013, our EDFC Active system brings forth a higher and more enjoyable experience we expect on all of our products.  Not only can users adjust dampening levels instantly while sitting in the driver seat, the EDFC Active is also capable of automatic damper adjustments based on speed and G-forces making it truly one of a kind.  However, in order to properly utilize the maximum capabilities of this system, parameters must be set so the computer will know what to do at any given times.

EDFC Motor Extension Kit?

That’s right!! TEIN Japan is currently in the works designing an extension component for the EDFC motors and is called the EDFC Motor Extension Kit. This kit would allow the adaptability of  EDFC and EDFC Active to those kits which may not have enough room or space in the engine compartment or rear trunk/ bulk head area.

P1070198 (Small)

Although this extension kit will allow for fitment for those hard to fit areas, keep in mind that some kits even though not EDFC compatible may have other reasons as to why they would not be compatible. The best suggestion would be to either reference my previous blog post “EDFC Fitment Check” to determine  initial compatibility or contact us direct to assist you in determining the compatibility.

This kit seems to be an excellent option even if you have sufficient space in the mounting area. It would tidy up space as well as add a more compact look to the coilover. We will follow up later in the year with an expected release date for the kit, until then you can periodically check both our main website and our blog for any news.

2013 Tokyo Auto Salon

We have started this 2013 year strong with our newly released Street Flex and EDFC ACTIVE.

Unfortunately TEIN USA was not able to attend the 2013 Tokyo Auto Salon show in Japan (physically), but we still attended the show in the form of our parent company, TEIN Japan, and our photo taken earlier this month. Thank God for the web and media as that would be our only source for consumers to check out those neck breaking cars.

Anywho, we had our new products on display, along with our knowledgeable Japanese staff to answer any questions that enthusiast had.

They must have been swamped with questions with regards to our newly released product line.  Shoot, here in the US our phones don’t stop ringing, and our inbox is full of inquiries.  I’m sure that the next event we attend in the US will have lines longer than Best Buy’s on Black Friday.

Can anyone direct me to the TEIN booth??…lol

Overall it was a great show.  The consumers’ feedback was as we anticipated. Our new product line is being received with open arms and we couldn’t ask for more (well… except for more orders, of course!!! LOL).  Please visit the link provided below as it will direct you to our Face Book page. You can check out other photos taken at the show.  Feel free to give us a call or drop a message if you have any questions!

We’ve received a lot of requests on the upcoming EDFC Active. Mainly- When will it be released?; What will price be?; What coilovers are they compatible with?

All good questions. So…

When will it be released?

TEIN USA is expecting to receive its first shipments before the end of January. Nothing confirmed yet. But even so, we’re still looking at possibly a mid-February delivery, with several more shipments received from late-February and mid-March. Many of our authorized dealers are taking preorders now to help and secure some sets for their customers.

What will price be?

EDFC Active Controller kit (part number EDK04-P8021) will retail for $433.
EDFC Active GPS Kit (part number EDK07-P8022) will retail for $80.

*Current EDFC Motor Kits (part numbers EDK05-10100, EDK05-10120, EDK05-10140, EDK05-12120, EDK05-12140, EDK05-14140) will work with these new EDFC Active components. Retail for EDFC Motor Kits is $165.

What coilovers are they compatible with?

Some Super Street and Street Advance, as well as all SS-P, Flex, Mono Flex, Super Drift, Comfort Sport, and Super Racing dampers can use the new EDFC Active.

*Super Racing dampers will require, two EDFC Motor Kits (one set for compression and one set for rebound adjustment), as well as two additional Motor Driver Units (1 unit for 2 EDFC Motors).

Please check our website for information on EDFC compatibility
