Japanese Classic Car Show (September 23, 2017)

This weekend is the Japanese Classic Car Show in Long Beach, by the Queen Mary! We’ve been attending for the past 5 years, and while it may not seem like our kind of customer base, we do get our fair share of product inquiries for suspension for older Japanese vehicles.

We’re not necessarily posting about our past experiences at JCCS, or what new products we’re making. In fact, our SPECIALIZED DAMPER PROGRAM still exists and is what we refer these types of customers to, since it’s applicable to nearly all vehicle makes and models.

Instead, I wanted to mention that once again we’ll be there, and of course we’ll have our TEIN merchandise on sale, as well as some of our products on display (and a pair of S30’s on our SPECIALIZED DAMPERS!). We’ll also have some TEIN suspensions that we’re clearing out and at a special price!!! While there aren’t many of these kits that we’re bringing, we’re sure there are some customers with these vehicle applications that might be interested.

These kits were used for test fitment and ride height measurement testing by our Research & Development department. So they are practically brand new with some installation scratches.

TEIN USA, Inc. Experiencing Significant Shipping Delays

If you’ve been following the news, especially for Southern California and anything related to the West coast, you may be familiar with the strike at the ports. The strike, which has been going on since late last year, have caused extended delays for us and has created an increasing backlog of shipments out to our customers.

ships parked

Currently, there are quite a number of vessels anchored out near the port awaiting their turn to be unloaded, while at the port there are containers just sitting, stacked one atop another.

LB_LA-portcongestion

This port congestion has caused major problems, not only for TEIN USA, Inc., but for many more industries.

It seems dock workers and shipping companies have reached a tentative agreement and work will resume. However, the damage has been done, and we still continue to expect major delays.

In total, we have three containers awaiting arrival. One is expected to arrive at the end of this month. Another to arrive a few weeks after. Please note that we will do everything within our ability to try to fulfill our customers’ orders once our shipments have arrived.

On behalf of all of us at TEIN USA, Inc., we thank you for your continued patience.

If any questions on your pending TEIN orders, please do not hesitate to reach our sales team at 562-861-9161. We’ll happily give you updates and address your concerns.

T.O.R.C.’s All ToyotaFest

For the past couple of years, TEIN has been attending the All ToyotaFest held in Long Beach, CA. at the Queen Mary. The Toyota Owners and Restorers Club (T.O.R.C.) runs the event, one of two events they have at the same location each  year.

This Saturday, May 3rd, will be the 19th annual All ToyotaFest. Open to the public from 9a-3p! Check out all the classic and late-model Toyota’s on display. Maybe find some hard to locate parts you needed for your Toyota project? There will also be several vendors on hand!

This is a great opportunity to see Toyota’s of all generations on display, many of which belong to private owners who continue to drive their prized Toyota’s daily! This also attracts crowds of Lexus and Scion owners, and anything that has Toyota-related manufacturing to it.

It’s also a great opportunity to pick up some TEIN goods! We’ll also have some specials on a few suspension kits. So please stop by our tent!

Also, admission is free! That is another great reason to come by and enjoy the Long Beach weather!

See you there!

Geoff Stoneback. A True Competitor

Once again, we’re glad to have Geoff Stoneback on-board with TEIN as his suspension supplier! Never one to let his sponsors down, Geoff made sure to put in a great effort at the Long Beach event this past April 4-5th.

He’s not with easy company, mind you. This year, Geoff takes his talents against seasoned veterans in the Pro Championship drivers many of us are already familiar with. So, in some ways, the odds are against him since many of these pros are backed heavily with sponsors, and that money goes into their race cars (some builds well into the 6 figures!!). Geoff is doing all his campaigning on a relatively paltry budget. But, he’s doing it well!

We had a chance to run into him in the pits and he gave us a rundown of the event. Unfortunately, he was plagued with clutch slave cylinder issues from the beginning. Even after repairing the damaged seal with a spare seal, the problem persisted, making qualifying difficult for Geoff. Unfortunate to say, but Geoff was knocked out of competition early due to this constant problem with the slave cylinder seal.

He stopped by our booth during his downtime. Since we’ve yet to meet him in person (can you believe that?!?!), it was a great pleasure to hear from him. Seems like car problems during qualifying weren’t the only issues. Geoff told us transportation of his race car was delayed due to the truck breaking down en route, stopping in Sweetwater, TX. Fortunately, Geoff’s TX connection from Dirty Diesels gave the trailer a tow to the nearest Ford dealership, while the truck was being worked on over there. It definitely pays to have connections like that!

However, the headache grew, as the Ford dealer could not repair the truck in time. Geoff had no choice but to hire a contractor to deliver the trailer the rest of the way to sunny California. Talk about being stressed out.

When the car finally arrived to California, there was still plenty of prep work to do to get the car to pass tech inspection. The crew went right to work. This cut well into any practice time for Geoff in a completely new car. So many unknowns were to be revealed to him. Nevertheless, Geoff went right to work. And the rest of the story you read about above.

So, while sad as it all sounded, it was great to see Geoff continue with his pursuit to become a champion. The season is far from over, and the same goes for Geoff’s career as a race car driver! We look forward to Geoff’s updates on the next event!

Japanese Classic Car Show!

‘Sup Guys !

As most of you know there was a Japanese Classic Car Show in Long Beach, CA. There were lots of different types of cars, but of course most all of them still being Japanese makes. Most of the cars were classics, with the exception of the cars we took, which were the 2013 Subaru BRZ from Crawford Performance (currently being turbocharged, btw) and a 2006 Evo 9 from Kontrabrands’ Philip Chase. Even though the car show was close to the beach it was still a very hot day. The staff that attended the show had to wake up extra early to set up the booth and to beat the heat. We took lots of Tein goods and a couple of dampers at special price just for the event, as well.

Being that it was super hot, the first item that sold out were our Fold-up Umbrellas and our Tein Parasols. Here are some pictures of the cars as well as the staff that attended the car show hope you enjoy the pictures.

Here are both the BRZ and the Evo 9!

Not a classic but a very nice CRX!

A very nice custom interior

Video of Vaughn Gittin Jr’s drift Mustang at Long Beach

Awesome video of Vaughn Gittin Jr at Formula Drift – Long Beach. You can see the dual EDFC controllers mounted in the dashboard. ASD did an awesome job building this car in a short time. Everything about the car is all business especially the interior – So fresh and clean.

Formula Drift Rd.1 Winner Vaughn Gittin Jr.

TEIN would like to congratulate JR Gittin for winning Rd. 1 of the 2010 Formula Drift Championship. Even more impressive is that this was the debut event for JR’s new ride which is the Monster Energy/ Falken Tire 2011 Ford Mustang built by ASD and featuring TEIN 2-way coilovers with dual EDFC.

JR unveiled this car on Thursday night at a special Falken FD pre-party at Rod Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory in Downtown Los Angeles.

TEIN does not produce an off-the-shelf 2-way kit for the Mustang so the kits on JR and JTP cars’ are from our Specialized Damper program (SPD). The SPD program allows any customer purchase a made to order kit from our Yokohama, Japan factory.

TEIN was out at Rd. 1 in Long Beach with a small booth. Thank you to all the people that stopped by to say hello and purchase some TEIN goods.

Special thanks to Marc M. of Auto-Tech Interiors for the action pics of JR’s Mustang.
