Honda S2000 from Down Under

I recently went through canibeat.com and saw this super clean Honda S2000.  If it’s not old school Volkswagen’s I’m diggin’, I’m definitely awestruck by rad looking roadsters. And this S2000 is getting my full attention.

The owner of this car, Vyet Le did a great job of modding his car tastefully and not overdone in any way. The Volk CE28N’s have what I consider to be a perfect fit. The power mods seem minimal (why mess with a good thing?). Actually, it reminds me of our very own resident engineer’s,  Shuichiro, S2000.

Check it out at

I’ve wanted a roadster (among many other vehicles) for some time now. I’m hoping to get into one someday soon, too. So in the meantime, I’ll just keep on gawking at all the rad roadsters that pop up on my Google search. Or, maybe I can borrow Shuichiro’s S2000…

Evasive Motorsports’ Latest Race Car Project

We are proud to once again work with Evasive Motorsports and their latest project car, an E46 BMW M3. This vehicle will be a dedicated Time Attack vehicle.

Mike Chang of Evasive Motorsports previously used this car as a daily driver. But I imagine, especially after putting in a lot of seat time in their Limited AWD Class CT9A Evolution and Street FR Class AP1 S2000 (of which they both clocked the fastest times in their class at last year’s Super Lap Battle), the E46 certainly found itself a new job in life.

Fortunately for us, we’ve had some experience with the E46 M3, developing a one-off damper kit for use in the Super Taikyu series. In fact, we obtained a set directly from TEIN R&D for Evasive to work with while they dial in their car for track duty. These 3-way adjustable dampers are a far cry from anything street compliant as they are designed for 30+kg/mm springs front and rear. *We are now developing a Super Racing type damper kit for this chassis with rates much more suitable for track conditions we see Stateside. Our in-house engineer Shuichiro will be working side by side with them during this development.

Stay tuned with us and Evasive Motorsports as this vehicle continues to develop throughout the year!

Do not try this at home!

I came across this rad video over the weekend of a custom built Kawasaki vs. corvette powered RX7 as they drift battle it out around the track.

Now what does this have to do with our company you may ask. Well its rad for one, it has some insane drifting and check out around 1:50. Yep, I spy some TEIN coilovers. This V8 RX7 driven by Jim Guthrie (professional race car driver) is using our Super Racing coilovers. Overall its a dangerous and awesome video. RC car camera=win, The End.

R35 Godzilla!

As some of you might not know yet..  but the Skyline has returned and is available for sale in the US! Now, I know that you are hearing this for the first time and the price might be a little out of our [your] price range. But if you dream it, it will come because I currently have 3 in my garage! Seriously, I can show you my garage on Gran Turismo 5.

Anyways, I wanted to introduce you to a few products that are available for the GTR. Unfortunately we do not currently stock any of the items here in the US due to low demand but can special order for you.

Super Racing Coilovers (Part Number: DSK00-81LS1) Springs are sold separately.

MSRP for these bad boys is $3650.00  (and I do mean bad.. think CyberEvo. Yep the famous record breaking CyberEvo is running our Super Racing Coilovers).

Lexus GS450H Race Car

You might have seen this car on various online sites from SEMA 2010 coverage.

It is the 0-60 magazine built Lexus GS450H track car. Since nobody really has experience increasing power on a Hybrid, builder Gordon Ting, concentrated on all other aspects of a full blown race car. Overall weight was reduced by removing unneeded components and using composite materials, aerodynamics were greatly improved, suspension was upgraded to full 2-way adjustable coilovers, larger brakes front and rear, light weight forged wheels, competition slick tires and of course all the safety gear.

Here is a little closer look and maybe something few people know about.

1) Using custom application Super Racing Coilovers with dual EDFC (both units not yet installed).

2-way damping force adjustment, compression and rebound separately adjustable. Full length adjustment for setting ride height and spring pre-load independently. External reservoir tank for added oil capacity and cooling. Pillowball upper mounts and racing springs complete the kit.

This kit was produced under our Specialized Damper program in which TEIN can create custom coilovers for applications we do not normally produce and in custom specification to meet the customer’s requests.

2) Has the new DEFI ZD display.

DEFI ZD display, one of the EDFC controllers and a host of vital switches on the carbon center console. The unconventional shift knob was fabricated because the OE shifter was way too far forward.

3) The aero was made by TEIN dealer Evasive Motorsports

Dual canards, CF lip and custom CF front splitter from Evasive Motorsports. Forged TE37-SL from Rays and 6-piston neon green calipers from Brembo.

4) The car has a fully function air jack system.

Fully functional air jack system gets this car up in 3 seconds and back down even faster. The ultra aggressive aero and race ride height make the air jacks a necessity for service (imagine trying to get a floor jack under there without them).

You can see this car in the Lexus Booth at the LA Auto Show from 11/19 – 11/28.

Good Luck at the Global Tuner Grand Prix

TEIN Authorized Dealer Evasive Motorsports is headed up to Mazda Raceway aka Laguna Seca for the Global Tuner Grand Prix this weekend. We wish them luck against the plethora of Porsche race cars and other top tier time attack teams.

Evasive will be running Yokohama slicks for this event along with new 11″ wide TE37 SL, re-tuned SRC coilovers and a few aero enhancements. TEIN engineers have revalved front and rear dampers for the increased spring rates. Plus we have added a special reservoir tank to the rear shocks to give Evasive 3-way damping force adjustment.

Employee owned: EVO 9

This car has been in a few previous posts. It is owned by one of the staff here at TEIN USA. Originally bought brand new to be a fun daily driver / occasional track toy but soon took on a life of its own. Since we are the exclusive distributor for a variety of top brands (Carbing, Fujitsubo, Defi, SuperPro, and Takata) it was easy to build a quality car, plus employee discounts never hurt.

The exterior is comprised of Voltex bodykit and wing. Volk TE-37 18×9.5+12 with 8mm of spacers on front and rear wrapped with 275/35/18 tires.

Sitting on Super Racing coilovers with 14kg front springs and 12kg rear springs. The dampers have also been revalved with a few “special” parts to test out. Could be lower for appearance sake but this ride height works well for performance reasons.

Power is provided by Tomei ARMS turbo, Cosworth head and top end internals, plus a few HKS parts. You can find out HP/TQ and power curve in the current issue of Import Tuner magazine (July 2010) which go into detail about the Tomei Arms M7960 turbo, Cosworth 272 cams, and Okada Projects Quad Pac ignition coils. Drivetrain is comprised of Carbonetic carbon fiber clutch and carbon differentials.

Interior is filled with DEFI meters, Bride GIAS seats, Greddy boost controller, Alpine headunit, and of course dual EDFCs.

SportCar Motion ITR

TEIN Authorized dealer Sportcar Motion was just out testing their newest Time Attack machine, a US Integra Type R. Loi, Renzo, and the guys at SportCar Motion have been posting up pics of the build and TEIN is proud to be a vehicle sponsor. It has been modified to compete in the Redline Time Attack  and Super Lap Battle series. SportCar Motion went with the TEIN SRC dampers which have worked well for them in the past. They are the same model used on the competition EG6 which still holds the lap record in SLB Limited FF class competition.

Power comes from a built K24/K20 NA motor and puts out ~300WHP.

Large canards, front splitter and Voltex wing keep the car planted.

Like any good competition team the SportCar Motion crew have been putting in many hours of testing time to dial in the car. We are looking forward to the coming season as we hope to help setup the suspension so drivers Tim Kuo and Renzo Marsano can break records.

Both SportCar Motion FF cars use Super Racing Coilovers straight out of the box. As the vehicle evolves we can change internal components to alter any area of the damping force curve to improve the suspension’s performance. This is a service we offer to all our sponsored teams and anyone using TEIN coilovers but only the sponsored teams get to try our new “secret” parts. 😉
