1992-1995 Honda Civic Suspension Testing

While this car has been out of production for well over 20 years now, we still find that the 1992-1995 Honda Civic is still a good seller in terms of our suspension products. Many older vehicles don’t really fare so well when it comes to aftermarket parts. Many parts being discontinued due to little demand. However, Civics of this generation are still very popular platforms to modify, and there are still plenty of them on the road, whether in sedan, coupe, or hatchback form.

Many of our customers should be well aware that TEIN is adamant of technological innovation in suspension. In fact that is a huge part of the name “TEIN” (TEchnological INnovation). Year after year we always look into ways to improve our suspensions and we try, as much as possible, to offer various kits to make it easier for the customer to choose the correct kit for their needs.

With that said, we’re still working on developing suspension for the ’92-’95 Civic. Currently, we’re working on the specifications for our upcoming STREET BASIS Z & STREET ADVANCE Z applications. While this line has been out for a few years now, we had yet to release it for these model years of Civic.

Why bother with testing, especially if we already have existing STREET BASIS and STREET ADVANCE coilovers? Why not just carry over the same specs of that kit to the newer Z line? That would be the easy way of doing it. However, we rely very heavily on customer feedback when deciding what spring rates and what type of valving we will designate for each application. Over the years, our customers’ mindsets have changed. In the past, we were making suspension kits that were very aggressive in terms of springs and valving, mainly because the customers were expecting a very sporty ride feel. While great for track driving, they proved to be very harsh for the street, especially if it was for a daily driver.

Over the years, we’ve taken the time to revise our tuning philosophy for suspension. Making dedicated street suspensions such as the STREET BASIS and STREET ADVANCE lines, we wanted good performance with uncompromising comfort to be the emphasis.

That, along with other updated suspension components like our Advance Needle (for damping adjustable suspension), and piston valve designs, different shim designs, etc. , means that we must retest certain vehicle platforms to make sure there is no degradation in either performance or comfort. Simply trying to carry over an old specification into a new suspension doesn’t always work out so well.

So, back to testing the ’92-’95 Civic and finding that good balance we’re looking for! Actually, since we’re on the topic of this car, we’re planning to revise the spring rates for the front (from 7kg/mm to 9kg/mm). That may not sound logical, since we’re trying to set up a good street kit with ample comfort. But, with the prototype valving we’re testing on it, it is working perfectly!!

Oh, and I forgot to mention- look for the new STREET BASIS Z to start around $450 and STREET ADVANCE Z at $550 for this platform Civic when it’s released later this year!

2013 Hyundai Genesis Coupe Testing Wrap Up.

Our R&D department has wrapped up testing on the 2013 Genesis Coupe last month. We are glad to announce that our product line for the Genesis Coupe is compatible from 2010-2013 (see part numbers below). However, 2013 owners will need to purchase the end links for the 2010 model for our coil-over kit for proper function of the factory sway bar.

Fontana Nissan 5th Annual Meet

What’s up guys?!!  Next month will be attending Fontana Nissan’s annual meet on Sunday,  September 8th, at Auto Club Speedway. This will be their 5th year hosting this NISMO meet. Of course, TEIN will be attending this event. I myself drive an Altima Coupe (dropped on TEIN Basic coilovers), so I’m excited to see what people have done to their coupes. I also look forward to seeing Infiniti’s and other Nissans present. I’m sure there will be slammed 350z, 370z, g35, g37, 240sx, 200sx, 300zx, GT-R, etc. The list can go on.

2.5s (4cyl) Altima Coupe S.Tech Results

Testing for the 4cyl (2.5) Altima Coupe is now complete. Unfortunately, the springs available for the 6cyl (3.5) Altima coupe are not compatible with the 4cyl, although springs will mount up without a problem. You will achieve about a 1″ drop in the rear.  However, the springs rates for the front springs are too stiff resulting in a lifted front end. This would obviously give your coupe a look as if you where carrying pounds of cement in the trunk.  Therefore a new spring has been designed and ordered specifically for the 2.5 Altima Coupe. The spring kit should be available for purchase in the US within two to three months.

Going JDM!!

For a while now I’ve been an American muscle type of guy.  I’m talking Camaro’s, Mustangs, Challengers, Novas, Chevelle’s, etc.  I’ve owned both a Chevy and a Ford. I mean, who doesn’t love the sound of a Flowmaster muffled muscle car when flooring the pedal on that v8?!  I was also a fan of big rims, bright lights, ear drum popping bass, and eye sore-type paint jobs. But, maybe working here at TEIN has shoo-ken my head and opened my eyes  to a new scene.

I’ve always liked imports, but never enough to buy one. This time around I decided to go “JDM” and join the club. I figured, shoot, I’ll give it a try.  This time around I picked up an Altima Coupe. Nothing to make you jump out your seat but definitely something different than a Chevy.  And yes of course, I’m going to slam it on TEIN!!! I’m not the type of guy to keep a car stock. They’re like toys to me. I’m sure many of you out there will agree. So I’m definitely upgrading what I can. Like, OMG, who keeps their car stock??(lol).

Genesis Coupe Tech Info Update

Hey everyone! Back again with some tech info that would come in handy for anyone looking to buy a Basic damper kit for a Hyundai Genesis Coupe.

This info was brought to my attention by the R&D staff during their test period with a 2011 model Genesis Coupe as well as further info which had been found on the web. It seems as though the design on the front shock absorber endlink rod mounting tabs have changed from the original production model years to the most current model years sharing the same chassis code. The older model years would have the endlink ball joints facing away from each other in opposite directions (180º). The newer model years would have the endlink ball joints opposing each other at a 90º angle. Provided below is a photo of the different endlink rods which would detail the model years and endlink rod part numbers.

 **Please note that the model years listed below would correspond as followed: Part # 54830-2M000 would be found on 12/19/2008 – 9/15/2010 models year vehicles, Part # 54830-2m001 would be found on models after 9/15/2010 – Current 2011 models**

 

By referencing the photo above as well as the model year of your vehicle, it should help to determine the correct parts needed. For newer model years “after 9/15/2010 – Current 2011 models”, the older style endlink rods would be required when using our Basic damper kit.

Although the info provided above would help in determining whether endlink rods would be required on your application I would still recommend checking to see which shock absorber type your vehicle currently uses. Even though the parts are different for those model years, there is a possibility of the shock absorbers being swapped between models years.

Hopefully this tech info helps out anyone looking to change their stock suspension to coilovers on their Hyundai Genesis Coupe.

Attention 2011+ Hyundai Genesis coupe owners!!

As most of you know TEIN USA has R&D department in our U.S. office.

And we have been providing overhaul service and been developing our products.

This ’11+ Hyundai Genesis coupe was on our development list because of  Hyundai has changed sway bar link to longer one from year model 2011.

And finally TEIN USA has confirmed that our damper kit will fit with ’11+ models.

Those who with ’11+ Genesis coupe needs to purchase the sway bar link from dealer, but ride height came out exactly same as early model and same handling characteristics.

Here is the picture shown the difference of the sway bar link of the  early model and ’11+ Hyundai Genesis coupe.

Long one is ’11+ Hyundai Genesis coupe and shorter one is for ’08-’10.
