J.T. Motoring Built G-ya

Hey everyone, back again with something different than usual. Recently my good friend  Brian of J.T. Motoring in Hyde Park, MA. had sent me over picks of a car he had been working on for a close customer. This is definitely a clean ride.

 

 The owner Bill Petrucci definitely knew what he wanted when he came to Brian. From the Nardi E-brake lever to the custom one-off Project Mu big brake kit this car is eye candy. Of course me being a (Low Down Spec) type of guy I would say that the ride height of the vehicle is not too bad but can always go lower!

 

The interior is set up with matching Bride XAX red leather seats, Limited Edition (Top Secret) Personal Neo Grinta steering wheel with Works Bell Splash hub and quick release matching well with the seats, and  Tommy Kaira Hebi Bebi Shift Knob which is a sweet looking knob.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The exterior is sleek Black Obsidian with some custom painted headlights and grill which look awesome. The car is rockin’ 20″ Advan RZ-DF on Falken FK45deuces sitting on TEIN Type Flex’s with a custom mounted EDFC unit in the ashtray.

 

Listed below are all of the mods done to this G. Brian definitely took his time and extra effort to make this G37 S look like it came right out of a Hyper-Rev or Options JDM Magazine. FR-S Release Party at Penske Toyota

Penske Toyota in Downey, CA had a Release party for the New Scion FR-S and for the First Penske Scion FR-S Owner. We happened to be there since it’s not to far from our warehouse and we have actually been testing the Scion FR-S that 5 Axis let us borrow.


This is the FR-S we have been testing on it looks good on our S-Tech lowering springs that we have been developing for the US models. Ride height drop is approximately -35mm front and -30mm rear, giving the car a great stance, especially with plus-sized wheels.

 

It was good seeing that not only did they have the FR-S to show, but they had multiple Toyota/ Scion vehicles, some being 5 Axis customers and others being Toyota enthusiasts of new and old. This evening’s event also included a raffle, showroom models of FR-S’s to check out, a DJ, and also some barbecue for attendees.

ONE SLAMMED ELEMENT!!

‘Sup Guys! As you can see, this Element does not look like your ordinary slammed Element. Then again why would it, since this one belongs to one of our staff that is known for slamming his cars!

You can see how much lower it is compared to another staff member’s stock Element here.

This slam didn’t come easy. Gonzo had to look over lots of design drawings and come up with the one that basically lowered the car to his liking! He decided to go with customized Basic dampers from a 2001-2005 Honda Civic re-valved to 10kg and 14 kg springs. After he completed lowering his Element he purchased a nice set of Enkei’s (first gen NT03+M  18″ by 8 1/2″  to make it look even lower (overall diameter of the wheel and tire is smaller than the factory setup).

**The 2001-2005 Civic Basic kit is is not a direct swap into the Element- steering arm location is not the same and requires custom steering tie rod ends to make it work. It should be noted that if anyone decides to do a similar modification to their vehicle, it is at their sole discretion.

Some of his upgrades are a S2000 steering wheel with functioning cruise control, a rear camber kit and a Carbing blue anodized shift knob.

 

 

 

 

Genesis Coupe Tech Info Update

Hey everyone! Back again with some tech info that would come in handy for anyone looking to buy a Basic damper kit for a Hyundai Genesis Coupe.

This info was brought to my attention by the R&D staff during their test period with a 2011 model Genesis Coupe as well as further info which had been found on the web. It seems as though the design on the front shock absorber endlink rod mounting tabs have changed from the original production model years to the most current model years sharing the same chassis code. The older model years would have the endlink ball joints facing away from each other in opposite directions (180º). The newer model years would have the endlink ball joints opposing each other at a 90º angle. Provided below is a photo of the different endlink rods which would detail the model years and endlink rod part numbers.

 **Please note that the model years listed below would correspond as followed: Part # 54830-2M000 would be found on 12/19/2008 – 9/15/2010 models year vehicles, Part # 54830-2m001 would be found on models after 9/15/2010 – Current 2011 models**

 

By referencing the photo above as well as the model year of your vehicle, it should help to determine the correct parts needed. For newer model years “after 9/15/2010 – Current 2011 models”, the older style endlink rods would be required when using our Basic damper kit.

Although the info provided above would help in determining whether endlink rods would be required on your application I would still recommend checking to see which shock absorber type your vehicle currently uses. Even though the parts are different for those model years, there is a possibility of the shock absorbers being swapped between models years.

Hopefully this tech info helps out anyone looking to change their stock suspension to coilovers on their Hyundai Genesis Coupe.

March Madness!!

No, this is not your typical NCAA March Madness. But it is March Madness in our
warehouse department! I recently went to deliver to Options Auto Salon, our
local authorized distributor, with the box truck full of pallets, including springs
and dampers in the passenger side of the cab!

The box truck can hold a total of 8 pallets. But since the order was so
massive, I didn’t have enough room in the back. So we just simply filled up
the cab. It has been very busy here at TEIN with other massive orders we had shipped
out this week, not to mention receiving our second container from TEIN Japan this month to help fulfill the rest of the orders we have pending. We hope we get many more of these “March Madness’s” this year (how about an April Madness?!)!

Though the cab was filled with product, safety precautions were of course taken to
avoid any accidents such as mirror visibility and the product
arrangement. Strange that for some reason the product was arranged in such a
manner that it stayed solid and in place even while driving.

As we get busier this year, we will do our best to make sure our dealers and customers have the products they’re looking for readily available and delivered as soon as possible!

2nd Place Win for The Rally xD TEAM!

Congratulations to the Rally xD Team pulling a 2nd place win just beating 3rd place by a few seconds!

Even though the teams were faced with a portion of blindness  due to high speeds and dry weather, which combined created major dust clouds affecting some of the teams on day one of  The Rally of the 100 Acre Woods in Salem, Missouri which forced the Rally xD to fifth place on Day 1.

They eventually managed a second place finish but not without battling their way through the ranks.

Multi-Link Suspensions and MacPherson Suspension-Camber Adjustability

There has been many customers inquiring about the Upper Mounts with Camber adjustability.

Yes, we do offer Upper Mounts with Camber adjustability and they are offered for certain applications, with MacPherson Struts type suspension.

Here is a quick look at a MacPherson strut and why it is able to be used with a Camber plate.

MacPherson Strut Type – A design in which the strut connects to the hub assembly directly to the chassis of the vehicle. No upper arm is used to control the movement of the hub. This design usually allows the camber and caster angle of the suspension to be adjusted from the upper mounts. Some vehicles with front struts may not use camber adjustable mounts because of limited space in the strut tower or major design differences of upper mount designs.

 

Multi-Link aka Shock Type – Independent or multi-link type suspensions utilize a shock. An upper and lower control are used to control movement of the hub. (double A-Arm, wishbone, etc…). This design does not allow camber or caster adjustment to be made from the upper mounts since all it will be doing is moving the coil over from one side to the other without adjusting camber since it does not bolt on directly to the hub for camber or caster adjustments.

 

The Upper Mount below is a Camber Adjustable plate offered for some applications with MacPherson type Coilovers.

The below Pillow Ball Upper Mount is for Multi-Link Suspension it is not camber adjustable but it is a good replacement of the OEM Upper Mount since a NWB spherical bearing is used in place of the rubber bushing, which allows for improved tire grip and more accurate wheel alignment.

Evasive Motorsports’ Latest Race Car Project

We are proud to once again work with Evasive Motorsports and their latest project car, an E46 BMW M3. This vehicle will be a dedicated Time Attack vehicle.

Mike Chang of Evasive Motorsports previously used this car as a daily driver. But I imagine, especially after putting in a lot of seat time in their Limited AWD Class CT9A Evolution and Street FR Class AP1 S2000 (of which they both clocked the fastest times in their class at last year’s Super Lap Battle), the E46 certainly found itself a new job in life.

Fortunately for us, we’ve had some experience with the E46 M3, developing a one-off damper kit for use in the Super Taikyu series. In fact, we obtained a set directly from TEIN R&D for Evasive to work with while they dial in their car for track duty. These 3-way adjustable dampers are a far cry from anything street compliant as they are designed for 30+kg/mm springs front and rear. *We are now developing a Super Racing type damper kit for this chassis with rates much more suitable for track conditions we see Stateside. Our in-house engineer Shuichiro will be working side by side with them during this development.
